For more than fifty years, Dr. Singh showed up where the hunger was. He followed cowpea — a modest, heat-tolerant legume — across four continents, working alongside farmers, breeders, and students in India, Tanzania, Nigeria, West Africa, Brazil, and beyond. His papers registered new varieties, mapped resistances, and asked the harder question: did any of this actually reach the people who needed it?
